The singer Belinda premiered the VIDEO from his most recent song “The Bad One”; shows representative places of Guanajuato.

This Thursday, the Mexican singer, who has adopted the nickname “Beli Bélica” after her foray into corridos tumbados, finally released the video for her recent song titled “La Mala” which follows the line of trap and the genre of which Natanael Cano is an exponent.

The Bad One

The video, directed by Salomón Simhon, lasts a little over three minutes and features a series of intense and sadistic images that complement the song’s theme, which addresses the experience of being judged and publicly criticized; giving a window into Belinda’s life and her romantic relationships, especially the one she had with Christian Nodal.

Therefore, Belinda is seen representing Mary Magdalene, a historical figure who has been the subject of trials and criticism. Shortly after, she is stoned by the population, transforming from “Beli” into “Bélica”, a vampire with witchcraft powers, evoking historically persecuted figures.

In this part of the video, Belinda tries to demonstrate that, nowadays, criticism can become a form of modern lynching. She shows this in a scene in which a newscast is shown announcing with alarm “The bad one is here” and reporting that the singer is being lynched in the Alhóndiga de Guanajuato.

For this reason, the video clip has been interpreted by fans as meaning that “Belinda wasn’t really the bad guy, but rather a vampire was the one who attacked her and tarnished her image”, as the end of the video even concludes with a quote from Bette Davis: “In this business, until you’re known as a monster, you’re not a star.”

Something worth noting is that the clip, just a few hours after its release, has reached 228,303 views and has positioned itself in the top 21 of music trends on YouTube; however, it has also generated controversy.

This is because the credits mention that the project was carried out with funds from the state of Guanajuato, which has generated discussion about the use of public resources in production.

It has been revealed that the State Government, through the Cinematography and Audiovisual Council, paid 5 million pesos to film the video clip “La Mala” in the most representative places of the city, with the aim of promoting the tourist economy in the region.
