HMP Belmarsh is a notorious maximum security prison in south east London. Mail robber Ronnie Biggs sat here, Julian Assange is currently one of the inmates. Reporter Ross Kemp spends six months in Belmarsh on a voluntary basis, speaking to political extremists, felons and common criminals, and providing oppressive insights. In the first episode, Kemp meets drug lord Muhammad Asif Hafeez and visits the high security unit – a “prison within a prison”.
