In 2022, the GDP decreased by 4.7%, in January 2023 by January 2023 – by 5%, in January – February 2023 by the same period last year – by 3.6%, in the first quarter – by 2, 1%, in January – April this year – by 0.6%, in January – May 2023 – increased by 0.9%, in the first half of this year – increased by 2%.

June 22 at the meeting Alexander Lukashenko expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the economy for January – May. “Statistics publishes the results: the gross domestic product was 100.9%. A return to positive growth rates of investments in fixed capital is observed, adding 2.5% to last year. However, so far this is a weak task for fulfilling the set tasks even in six months,” he said.

According to the most important parameters of the forecast of socio-economic development of Belarus for 2023 approved by Lukashenko, GDP growth is planned at the level of 3.8%.

According to the analysts of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, in 2023, “GDP is expected to decline by 1%, followed by a moderate recovery in 2024 with growth of 1.3%, with significant downside risks.”

The Fitch Ratings agency believes that the country “awaits a further recession”: the GDP will decrease by 1.3% in 2023, and by 0.3% in 2024.

In its spring review, the World Bank predicted that the Belarusian economy would grow by 0.6% by the end of the year.
