Ben Qadara holds talks in Washington on Libyan oil sector

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation, Farhat Bengdara, held a series of meetings in the US capital, Washington, with a number of senior officials in the US administration.

According to the Foundation’s official Facebook page, the meetings included a meeting at the White House with US Presidential Special Advisor Amos Hochstein, at the State Department with US Assistant Secretary of State Joshua Harris, and at the USAID office with Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Middle East Sybil Siegel.

Ben Gueddara also held a meeting at the Treasury Department with US Treasury International Affairs Officer Anthony Marcus, and at the Energy Department with US Assistant Secretaries of Energy Geoffrey Pyatt, Brad Crabtree, and Josh Volz, and at the Commerce Department he met with US Assistant Secretary of Commerce Thomas Prince.

During these meetings, US officials affirmed their full support for the National Oil Corporation in its efforts to maintain its independence and neutrality, especially in light of the challenges and pressures it faces. They stressed the need to protect the corporation from interference that may hinder its performance, highlighting its vital role in securing the Libyan state’s income, in addition to stabilizing global energy supplies, especially in light of issues related to production cuts and the crisis of the Central Bank of Libya.

The officials also indicated their readiness to provide all forms of technical and technological support to enhance cooperation with the institution in the areas of governance and transparency, in addition to raising the efficiency of workers in the Libyan oil sector.

During the meetings, the importance of developing partnerships in the field of reducing carbon emissions was emphasized through the transfer of technology and knowledge necessary to achieve common environmental goals, especially within the framework of the initiatives put forward by the National Oil Corporation during the Cop28 World Climate Summit to reduce methane and carbon dioxide emissions.

It was also agreed to continue coordination between the two parties, including organizing future meetings and visits, with the aim of enhancing economic cooperation and supporting the entry of American companies into the Libyan oil sector.
