The Colombian Foreign Ministry announced disciplinary proceedings following a complaint of gender-based violence against Armando Benedetti, ambassador to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The complaint was filed by his wife, Adelina Guerrero, who accuses the diplomat of an assault that occurred at the end of June in Madrid, Spain.
In an official statement, the Foreign Ministry expressed its repudiation and condemnation of any form of violence against women. “We have been notified of the situation by our Embassy in Spain. The Foreign Ministry has activated the official mechanisms to find out what happened and initiate the corresponding protocol. This case is being handled by our internal disciplinary control office, and when we have the results we will act in accordance with the law,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

Armando Benedetti, for his part, has categorically denied the accusations. What has been said about an alleged assault is NOT true and does NOT correspond to the facts in Spain.“The truth will be revealed in the Spanish court. I am currently in the midst of a divorce process that falls within the private and family sphere and, for the sake of my children, I will be cautious,” the ambassador said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is continuing with the relevant investigations to clarify the facts and take the necessary measures as determined by law.
