For this reason, and not far from reality, the case of urban transport is cited, in which the elderly are not charged the full fare, but only fifty percent of the amount; but, unfortunately, some people are not aware of this benefit and do not apply it, because there is no correct dissemination, and even in some urban transport units there is no correct signage.
Situation. In this desire to know if the elderly people knew about the benefits that assist them, we asked several of them. Thus, Andrea Hidalgo, a citizen who was paying for basic services, announced: “I did know about these types of benefits that seniors have, but I don’t know where they just apply and how much is the subsidy they have , but what I have been able to observe is that people do not know about this either, for this reason, on some occasions, in the different boxes I have heard that the people who collect tell them that they must fill out a form so that they can access all these benefits , and I have even seen that the officials themselves give them this guide so that they can fill out all these documents”.
On the other hand, Emma Naranjo, a citizen who was approximately seventy years old, stated: “when I get on public transport, I generally always pay half the fare; In the case of electricity and the Internet, I did do the paperwork to be able to pay half and for the subsidy to help me, since I do not have insurance, and this helps a lot so that I can save for what happens later; In the same way, in the telephone payment I see that I already have the subsidy for being an elderly person, since in the payment receipt my subsidy appears, both in water, electricity and telephone services, but it is a process and papers, but the people who attend are always willing to help us”.
Security. The purpose of all this is to guarantee the right to a dignified life that ensures the integrity of the elderly, among them the Law for the Elderly also states, in its article two, that the State must protect, as a priority, people of third age. age who are in a condition of vulnerability or abandonment, also says that seniors should have exemptions and benefits, either through a request or by direct application. For this reason, most entities try to make the necessary diffusions so that citizens can be part of the benefits that the entities offer to the dear elderly people.
