Benfica Appoints Former Champion Bruno Lage as New Head Coach After Schmidt’s Departure

Benfica already has a coach, the returnee and national champion with the “encarnados” after the dismissal of Roger Schmidt.

Lage won the national title in 2018/19 by taking over as head coach on a provisional basis, but with very successful results.

At that time, Lage took over from Rui Vitória and made a recovery of seven points towards the title.

Wolverhampton and Botafogo were the two most recent experiences of the 48-year-old coach.

The club president, Rui Costa, had promised that the new coach would already be present at the scheduled return to work on Friday.
