This Wednesday, Benfica drew 4-4 with reigning champions Barcelona, in the sixth and final round of Group A of the women’s Champions League, in a duel between teams already qualified for the quarter-finals.
In the match played at Seixal, the Catalans took the lead with goals from Caroline Hansen, in the 18th minute, and Patri Guijarro, in the 20th minute, but Benfica managed to respond and equalized before the break, with two goals from Canadian Marie Alidou, at 26′ and 45′.
In the second half, Caroline Hansen scored twice in the match, at 54′, the “reds” turned the result around with a goal from Jéssica Silva, at 71′, and an own goal from Lucy Bronze, at 81′, a player who redeemed herself and he restored the tie at 90’+6′.
With this result, Barcelona, who had won every game played this season, finished first in the group, with 16 points, while Benfica is second, with nine, achieving an unprecedented qualification for the quarter-finals, with the Germans from Eintracht Frankfurt in third, with seven, and the Swedish from Rosengard in last, with just one.
