Benfica remains at the top of the Portuguese League

The nineteenth round of the Portuguese first division football championship took place over the past weekend. SL Benfica, Sporting CP, FC Porto and Sporting de Braga won their respective matches.

SL Benfica beat Casa Pia 3-0at Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, in a game counting for the 19th round of the Portuguese championship of the first division of football.

The eagles’ goals were scored by Portuguese midfielder João Mário, who scored twice, and by Danish defender Alexander Bah.

The reds lead the Portuguese league with 53 points after the nineteenth round. This was Benfica’s 17th triumph in this 2022/2023 season.

As for FC Porto, holders of the championship title, they are now in second place, eight points behind the leader, this after the 2-0 home victory against Vizela. The goals were scored by the Brazilian Pepê and the Iranian Mehdi Taremi.

As far as Sporting de Braga is concerned, it now occupies the 3rd position with 43 pointsafter the 4-1 home win against Famalicão.

The Braga’s goals were scored by the Frenchman Simon Banza, by the Portuguese-Guinean Bruma, who scored twice, and by the Albanian defender Enea Mihaj, in his own goal, while the only goal of the Famalicenses was scored by the Portuguese Leandro Sanca.

Sporting Clube de Portugal is in 4th place with 38 pointsthis after the 0-1 triumph in the trip to Rio Ave.

The only goal of the leonines was scored by the luso-Tunisian forward Youssef Chermiti, the first goal with the shirt of Sporting CP for the athlete of just 19 years and 8 monthsbecoming the second youngest goalscorer for the Lisbon club behind… Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored at the age of 18 years and 8 months.

The next journey takes place on February 12th.
