KASINDI – Hostage exchange ceremony this Friday, September 15, 2023 in the border town of Kasindi-Luviriha between the Congolese and Ugandan armies. A total of 30 ex-ADF/MTM rebels were exchanged.

The activity was chaired by Generals Robert Kasongo Maloba and Grand Dick Olum, Commander of Operational Sector SOKOLA 1 and Commander of the Mountain Division of the Uganda Army respectively.

The spokesperson for operations Sokola1 indicates that these 30 ex-jihadists, including 7 foreigners and 23 Congolese, were sometimes arrested during various clashes as part of joint FARDC-UPDF operations in the Ruwenzori sector in Beni territory. Some former rebels are in the Mwalika valley (Beni territory), others have gone to Uganda where they are supported by the Bridgeway Foundation. This after an awareness campaign.

According to Captain Antony Mwalushayi, the ceremony was an opportunity for the two generals and their staffs to assess the ongoing joint operations.

Certain measures have been taken to intensify the hunt for ADF/MTM rebels wherever they have found refuge.
