Béni Mellal-Khénifra: Launch of several agricultural and rural development projects

Mr. Sadiki, accompanied by the Wali of the Beni Mellal-Khénifra region, governor of the Beni Mellal province, the governors of the provinces of Khouribga, Fkih Ben Salah and Azilal, the president of the Chamber of Agriculture of the region and professionals from the sector, chaired the signing ceremony of a partnership agreement for the creation of a regional wholesale market for fruits and vegetables in Beni Mellal.

This Convention is part of the implementation of the second foundation of the Generation Green strategy, relating to the sustainability of agricultural development in the area of ​​improvement and modernization of the distribution of agricultural products.

The wholesale market will be built on an area of ​​15 ha with an estimated investment cost of 250 million dirhams, financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Council of the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region and the municipality of Béni Mellal.

Subsequently, the minister and the delegation accompanying him launched the construction work of 5.5 km of seguias as part of the solidarity agriculture project of the commune of Tanougha.

With a total investment of around 30 million dirhams, the project includes the planting of 500 ha of almond and carob trees, the development of 20 km of seguias, 10 km of agricultural tracks, the construction of two workshops for the promotion of cheese and aromatic and medicinal plants as well as support for beneficiaries.

This project aims to adopt agriculture that is resilient to climate change and should enable the emergence of a new generation of young entrepreneurs and contribute to the expansion of the middle class.

On this occasion, the Minister took note of the Provincial Agricultural Plan of Beni Mellal. With an estimated investment amount of 3 billion dirhams, the provincial agricultural plan includes several programs and projects that take into account the constraints and natural and human capacities of the Province.

The Minister also learned about the Atlas Mountains Rural Development Project (PDRMA), which is part of the provincial agricultural plan financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to the tune of 168 million dirhams.

In the province of Fkih Ben Salah, the minister visited the platform for the multiplication of cactus plants resistant to cochineal at the Regional Agricultural Research Center of Tadla located in the commune of Sidi Hammadi.

Built on an area of ​​4 ha, the platform aims to intensify resistant cactus varieties and strengthen cactus production for replanting in areas affected by cochineal.

Work also began on the construction of the connection canal, the supply lines and the distribution networks to supply the G9 sector over an area of ​​3,200 hectares as part of the Resilience and Sustainability of Irrigation (REDI) project.

At a cost of 660 million dirhams, financed by the World Bank, this project includes in particular the conversion of surface irrigation into localized irrigation over an area of ​​4,700 ha, the modernization of the Zidania canal and the construction of a hydraulic regulation basin.

The Minister also chaired the inauguration of a new generation boarding school at the Institute of Specialized Technicians in Agriculture in Fkih Ben Saleh, with an investment of 3.7 million dirhams. This project is part of the roadmap for agricultural training and professional qualification, which is part of the Generation Green 2020-2030 strategy.

In a statement to the press, Mr. Sadiki said that this field visit aims to continue the implementation of the Generation Green 2020-2030 strategy within the framework of the region’s provincial agricultural plans, noting that the visit also focused on hydro-agricultural development projects to accelerate the transition to a water-efficient irrigation method.

He also highlighted the importance of distribution network development projects in opening up agricultural areas as part of the Generation Green 2020-2030 strategy, which provides for the implementation of structuring agricultural projects by 2030.

At the level of the territorial commune of Ouled Abdoune (Khouribga), the minister accompanied by the governor of the province of Khouribga chaired the inauguration ceremony of a modern slaughterhouse of red meats with an investment of approximately 110 million dirhams and a capacity of 10,000 tons per year before chairing the ceremony of distribution of 20 direct seeding drills to the cooperatives of the region as well as equipment for the development of beekeeping sectors and aromatic and medicinal plants for the benefit of 11 cooperatives of the province.
