The benefits of these recent precipitations, the regional average of which is 32.6 mm, recorded on February 10 in the five provinces of the region with a peak of around 77.6 mm in the commune of Demnate (province of Azilal) have already been felt on the filling rate of the two dams serving the irrigated areas of the region, namely, Bin El Ouidane and Ahmed El Hansali, said the regional manager.

Thus, he continues, the reserves of these two dams experienced a slight increase from 5.6% for Bin El Ouidane, on February 9, to 7.4% on the 12th of the current month, i.e. the equivalent of 90.2 million cubic meters of water, and a filling rate of 4.1% to 5.1% for the same period for the Ahmed El Hansali dam (33.9 million cubic meters of water ).

The recent rains will also have a significant impact on the preservation of crops already established, in particular on fruit trees in the region as well as strategic crops, namely sugar beets and cereal crops.

The rains that rushed over the region will have a positive effect on the growth of vegetation cover in pastures, which will provide important fodder resources for livestock and reduce the burden of purchasing feed among livestock breeders, a- he noted, indicating that the impact of this precipitation will also be felt on groundwater tables which have been severely affected by the recurrence of years of drought.

With a strong agricultural vocation, the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, which is full of significant water and edapho-climatic potential, presents significant contributions on a national scale, in terms of plant and animal production.

For the main agricultural sectors, the region produces, for a normal year, 30% of cereal seeds intended for multiplication, 28% of sugar beets, 20% of citrus fruits, 15% of olives, 13% of red meats and more than 12% milk.

In terms of specific local sectors, the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region is positioned with more than 95% sesame, 90% paprika and 50% pomegranate compared to the production of our country.

The advent of rainfall allows the region to relieve pressure on its water resources, particularly in terms of irrigation, and is likely to further improve agricultural and pastoral production.
