Patrice Talon receives a delegation from the opposition party The Democrats this Monday, November 27 to discuss the organization of the 2026 general elections. Boni Yayi, recently elected president of the party, is expected to lead the delegation.

The meeting was initiated by the President of the Republic. It follows calls from its opponents for a dialogue around the conditions for organizing the 2026 general elections.

On November 10, Boni Yayi announced on Facebook that he had invited the African Union, ECOWAS and other international partners to “conduct a mission to Benin to inquire about the institutional framework put in place by President Talon in view of the general elections of 2026”. For the former President of the Republic recently elected head of the Democrats, “this framework is not inclusive due to the absence of opposition representatives in the bodies”.

Other subjects such as the proposal for an amnesty law tabled by the Democrats in parliament, youth employment and the situation of agricultural producers are also announced by the opposition party. Of the previous meetings of Patrice Talon with Boni Yayi et with Eric Houndété addressed some of these issues.
