Benin will launch in 2024 the activities of its new international hospital erected in Abomey-Calavi. This hospital center planned to be a reference in the sub-region will benefit from the French expertise requested by the Beninese government.

From the recruitment of staff to the implementation of procedures, the French partner, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) International, will be at the heart of the start-up of the Calavi International Hospital Center (CHIC). The Council of Ministers of this July 12 made this option to ensure its “good management that guarantees its sustainable exploitation”.

This partnership aims to guarantee optimal preparation for the opening of the hospital, in particular through the recruitment of administrative, nursing and technical staff, and the establishment of the management team. In addition to preparation support, AP-HP International will provide technical support for hospital management. This includes the development of management documents and care pathways, as well as support for the management team through twinning with the Paris-Sorbonne hospital group.

With a capacity of 436 beds, and with its state-of-the-art technical platform, the CHIC is designed to be equipped with numerous poles such as: emergencies, cardiology, oncology, medical-surgical digestive, musculoskeletal and neurosurgical, head and neck, cardiovascular and thoracic, endoscopy, sterilization pharmacies and support systems. The construction of the hospital, provided by another French group, Bouygues Bâtiment International, had started in 2020; its cost is estimated at around 116 billion CFA francs.
