The winners of the Grand Literary Prize of Benin will be revealed on November 3 in Cotonou. This is the fifth edition of the competition which rewards the best literary productions of Beninese each year.
In the blue room of the Cotonou Convention Centre, the writers competing for the Benin Literary Grand Prize will know their fate this Friday 03 number 2023. There are a total of 10 finalists. The most deserving candidate leaves with the trophy.
The Beninese State took this initiative in 2019 in order to “to highlight national editorial diversity and encourage national literary creation”. Benin’s prestigious literary award should also promote the detection of new talents beyond the national territory. “The Benin Literary Grand Prize is also intended to be a unifying activity in the sense that it brings together writers from all regions of the country as well as those from the Diaspora”informs the government website.
In 2022, the award was awarded to Jules Daniel Amoussou thanks to his work entitled “Camp zero”. The 2021 edition, which is the third, had the distinction of the writer Raouf Mama.
Special prices for the fifth edition
In addition to the Grand Literary Prize of Benin, special prizes are at stake for the fifth edition. These are the Editor’s Prize and the Literary Journalist’s Prize, two new special prizes established in 2019. According to the authorities, “These two prizes aim to distinguish and reward the publisher and the journalist, critic or literary columnist who have had the most impact, through their productions, on the literary life of Benin over the last three years”.
Eskil Agbo of Radio Beninlivres is the winner of the Literary Journalist and Columnist Prize of the fourth edition of the competition. The publishing house “Savanes du continent” won the Editor’s Prize.
For the 2023 edition, three publishing houses are finalists in the Best Publisher Award category. Two media professionals were nominated in the category of Best Journalist and Literary Columnist.
The deliberation and reward of the winners of each category are expected on November 3, 2023 from 7 p.m.
