New artistic attraction in Cotonou for the frescoes it bears, the port wall has been enriched with a new representation unveiled on Wednesday May 3 by its initiators. Made by a famous Brazilian artist, the new fresco expresses religious tolerance in Benin.

12 people, holding hands from behind and facing the map of Benin, well displayed on the globe. This is what the giant fresco painted by Eduardo Kobra, a Brazilian artist specializing in this type of work, offers to see. The people depicted on it have different religious beliefs but are united by the ideal of community life, the author explained in substance to the guests at the unveiling ceremony this afternoon of Wednesday, May 3. Among them are religious leaders.

“Here, in the land of the Amazons, Bio Guera, Béhanzin and Kaba, all religions are respectful of each other and have always shown scenes of openness and tolerance.”, declared the Minister of Culture, Jean Michel Abimbola. He presents the fresco as “a contribution by the artist to the ambition of the Government to make the wall of the Autonomous Port of Cotonou, a strong and emblematic place of expression of street art in Africa, where the greatest signatures of the world in terms of graffiti coexist, and to produce, through the works produced, a narrative in keeping with our identity, our history and our culture of peaceful coexistence”.

Note that the fresco was produced with funding from First Lady, Claudine Talon, patron of the project.
