Operator of the container terminal at the Port of Cotonou and subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics), Bénin Terminal trains its employees to align with the expectations of shipowner, importer and exporter customers. This training contributes both to the professional development of staff and to the optimization of the performance of the port of Cotonou.

During the practical training exercises

What is important: Bénin Terminal is committed to maintaining the level of professionalism of its teams through a variety of practical training. To achieve this, managers invest in training their various teams in technical and practical training. This, in coordination with renowned partners such as the Pan-African Port Training Center (CFPP) of Abidjan in Ivory Coast; the SDMO training center of the industrialist KOHLER in Brest in France, as well as the equipment manufacturer Konecranes, a specialist in port equipment in Finland. The goal is to ensure synergy and operational autonomy in real time on the Terminal; a guarantee of the sustainability of ship handling operations.

What you must remember : In 2022, more than 22,000 hours were devoted to training. These hours are the accumulation of training provided in person on the facilities of the port platform in Cotonou, or in the form of thematic webinars. It should be noted that all of this training concerns all Benin Terminal entities. These include: the Operations Department, the Technical Department, the Information Systems Department, the Administrative and Financial Department, the Human Resources Department, QHSE, etc. These departments all benefited from an average training time per agent of 120 hours for an annual budget of nearly 85,000,000 million CFA francs to strengthen the expertise of employees in operating machines, safety, maintenance and troubleshooting of machines, quality system management etc. For example, a training session was organized for 8 technicians last July, to deepen their knowledge of lifting equipment maintenance methods. This training was led by Mr. Nicolas PRICAK, after-sales service engineer, specially dispatched by Konecranes to France. In May 2023, three employees from Bénin Terminal were sent to Brest (France) to improve their skills in maintaining the fleet of generators supplying the power plant of the Port of Cotonou Container Terminal. This five-day session was led by experts from the KOHLER SDMO center and made it possible to revisit all the technical aspects essential to the operation of the machines.

What the actors say : According to the General Director of Benin Terminal, this is to guarantee the professionalism of their teams and the quality of service. Benin Terminal wants to provide everyone with the necessary tools and equipment, and this is always accompanied by training activities. “By doing this, we promote the long-term autonomy of our employees, talent detection, intergenerational synergies and cohesion,” declared the General Director of Bénin Terminal, Fabrice Ture. The organizers find that well-trained and seasoned employees in their field of expertise will further contribute to strengthening the capacities of Bénin Terminal to provide quality services to its customers, while supporting the performance of the Port of Cotonou.

About Benin Terminal : Thanks to 95 billion FCFA (145 million euros) invested since 2013 by Bénin Terminal, the container terminal of the port of Cotonou has become a regional logistics hub of growth for Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and Nigeria . A major player in the country’s logistics chain, Bénin Terminal employs 419 Beninese people and develops a subcontracting policy which helps generate a thousand indirect jobs. Bénin Terminal also carries out actions for populations in partnership with NGOs, for example supporting the schooling of young people affected by HIV, supporting the empowerment of young people and raising awareness of environmental preservation.
