After Ofer Tselappa was fired from the club, Benny Lam, who until recently coached the city rival Maccabi Petah Tikva, today (Monday) officially signed for a season and a half with Hapoel Petah Tikva, which he will try to keep for another season in the Premier League. The nomination of the coach for the team was first published this morning on ONE.

“I am excited to be appointed to the position of coach at a magnificent club like Hapoel Petah Tikva,” he said Benny Lem after signing. “We have a challenging task ahead of us and in order to meet it we need everyone united and pushing the team, already from the important game on Saturday. This club has a squad of players, audience and tradition that must stay in the Premier League and I am sure that together we will do it”, he added.

As mentioned, after Tsalappa was fired from the blue club due to the less than good ability and the recent unimpressive results, including a loss to MS Ashdod, the club decided to shake up the lines. Kobi Yarofa was also on the list of candidates and a conversation was held with him, but he chose not to attend. Lem was in demand in Petah Tikva over the past few days, and this evening the parties closed on a contract for a season and a half.

After coaching the youth of Maccabi Haifa, the 64-year-old Lam returned to the club where he starred on the grass – Maccabi Netanya. After Netanya, Lam continued to Maccabi Petah Tikva which he promoted back to the first league, but he ended his career there last month and now joins the city rival. Already in four rounds, a hot derby awaits him on the lines, when Ran Kozhuk, who replaced him twice in the last teams, is expected to stand in front of him.

Lam is expected to add his assistant Nati Azaria, who worked with him at Maccabi Petah Tikva last year, when he will have to appoint a new goalkeeper coach. Already tomorrow, Lam is expected to conduct the team’s morning training.

This morning, in addition to saying goodbye to Tselpapa, the team also said goodbye to his team – assistant coaches Eyal Baruch and Rotem Bar Yosef and goalkeeping coach Amir Abkasis. Already on Saturday Lalem expects a hot bottom battle against Hapoel Hadera at the Shlomo Insurance Stadium.
