Bergamo: Via Caprera park, why is it closed? And when will the work on the West Park be finished?

by time news

Why was the park in Via Caprera closed “unnecessarily” for a week? When will the work “over a year late” on the West Park be finished? And when will the already completed walkway connecting San Tomaso and Colognola actually be usable? These are the questions posed by the city councilor Enrico Facoetti in an urgent question about the situation of the parks in the San Tomaso district.

The first one affected by the question is the public one located in via Caprera, inside which there is a dog area and two with games for children and two entrances, one from via Caprera and one from via Tobagi, created specifically. In the adjacent area, urbanization works are still underway by a private operator of the Pii (Integrated Intervention Plan) called West Park, as explained by the councilor himself.

The intervention involves the construction of various residential buildings; the works include a lot for the construction of the park, one for via Valmarina-via Ravizza and one for the construction of a cycle/pedestrian walkway aimed at connecting the districts of San Tomaso and Colognola, overcoming the ring road.

«With the start of the works, authorized by the Municipality in October 2021 and started on 1 March 2022, the entire area is no longer accessible either from via Tobagi or from via Ravizza – explains the councilor -. The deadline was set at 405 days, therefore they had to finish in April 2023. As regards the walkway, the work was in fact already completed in February 2023 but never officially opened. From the councilor’s statements Falsely of December 2023, the next opening was evident within ninety days of the issuing of the new building permit to the private operator”.

“Why was the park closed for a week for no reason?”

But the issue of the park in Via Caprera does not end here. In fact, around mid-March (2024), the Municipality posted some notices indicating the closure of the entire park for renovation works on the play areas, from 25 March to 19 April.

«The park was actually closed entirely, except for the dog area which has now reopened, on 25 March but the work only began on the morning of Tuesday 2 April and therefore the park remained completely closed for a week in vain. Will this delay in the start of the works also lead to the postponement of the reopening of the entire park from 19 April to a later date?”.

The councilor then adds: «Why was it not done during the work to replace the playground equipment in the park, to isolate and cordon off the areas intended for the work, leaving the rest open for use by the inhabitants of the neighbourhood? When will the work on the West Park be finished, given that we are now more than a year late compared to the agreed dates and what are the reasons? When will the completed walkway actually be usable?
