The FC Bergheim footballers were a long way from winning the points they had hoped for in the Bundesliga game against Austria Vienna. The home game on Saturday resulted in a 1:6 (1:4) defeat.

A torn cross from Yvonne Weilharter, which went over goalkeeper Katharina Prummer into the net in the 8th minute, started the debacle early. Bergheim’s defense couldn’t get the visitors’ offense under control. After 24 minutes, the Viennese team led by ÖFB team defender Katharina Schiechtl was already leading 4-0. Vina Crnoja was able to shorten the score with a nice free kick (39′).

After the break, Bergheim was able to make the game more open, but without creating many chances to score. Austria Vienna took advantage of two more of its many chances to score and the final score was clear.

Coach Sara Schaible said: “We only had ten players available this morning and had to fill in from the 1b team. We made it difficult for ourselves in the game because we didn’t defend well.”

The next game will be important for Bergheim: On November 5th, the Kellerderby will be away against bottom team Wacker Innsbruck. “This will be extremely important for us,” emphasizes Schaible. “We now have two weeks, hopefully the hospital will clear out a bit by then.”
