Attack on young people in the tram: This is how the court sentenced the perpetrators
During the attack in Berlin in February 2022, a 17-year-old girl was racially abused, beaten and kicked by several women and men. Now there are the verdicts against the perpetrators.
After an attack on a teenager in Berlin, four of the six accused have been convicted. A 34-year-old was sentenced to eight months on probation. According to the judgment of the Tiergarten District Court, she racially insulted, hit and kicked the then 17-year-old. However, racist insults from the group were not proven in the process, said the presiding judge.
Two accused acquitted in Berlin
A 55-year-old was given a six-month suspended sentence for dangerous bodily harm, and a 45-year-old also received a six-month suspended sentence for aiding and abetting. A 43-year-old was sentenced to a fine of 2,200 euros (40 daily rates of 55 euros each) for threats and insults. Two defendants were acquitted.
The then 17-year-old high school graduate with Turkish roots and a German passport was racially abused in a tram after she described it in early February 2022 and shortly afterwards was hit and kicked at a stop.
Nobody wanted to help her
In a video from the hospital, the teenager later reported the crime, sometimes crying, and complained bitterly that none of the people around had helped her and that initial reports from the police and media initially attributed her complicity.
The public prosecutor has demanded suspended sentences of between seven and eleven months for three of the accused. In the case of the other accused, he pleaded for fines. Some of the defendants had partially admitted allegations, others demanded acquittal.
