Berlin start-up sets up new tiny houses

by time news

It was hot the past few days in Berlin. Very hot. The air is still between the street canyons, the asphalt is glowing. Everything sticks – the seats in the subway, the handrails, the exit buttons. Anyone who is still able to think clearly now will say to themselves: Let’s go, vacation, right now! Even if it’s just a very short one.

It is this urge to flee the city that accounts for the success of Raus: last year, the Berlin start-up launched four tiny houses. The company has had its extremely well-equipped cabins set up at remote locations in Brandenburg; beautifully designed designer huts that can be rented by the day.

That works – extremely well, in fact. The Raus-Cabins are notoriously fully booked, and Instagram posts and stories line up in which stressed-out city slickers roll towards their vacation home with their packed Rimowa suitcases. However, they don’t have a lot of luggage with them, as the tiny houses have everything they need for the long weekend: from the cheese grater to the boom box, from the espresso pot to the yoga mat.

Nothing should be missing here: Like all Raus huts, the “Eichenhöhe” is also perfectly equipped.

The urban designed cabins are in the greatest possible solitude; they are called “forest edge” or “forest clearing”, “pasture land” or “wild flower meadow”, which refers to their remote locations in a picturesque way. The weekend holidaymakers don’t know much more than the names in advance – they only receive the respective coordinates of their booked Tiny House by e-mail immediately before their arrival. A bit of adventure is added to a relaxing short holiday in the countryside.

Stressed city dwellers are said not only to be found in Berlin

The only downside: the waiting list that interested parties are confronted with. Spontaneous booking options are advertised on Instagram from time to time – but those who are less flexible will only find free appointments in a few months; There are currently more than 2,600 interested parties on the waiting list, as the start-up has now announced. It is clear that the signs at the Berlin company are now pointing to growth.

Holiday unobserved: The “Eichenhöhe” cabin is somewhere in the middle of nowhere between Leipzig and Dresden.

A few months ago, Raus set up his fifth cabin in Biesenthal, and a few weeks ago the next cabin in the Berlin area was added. And now the Raus founders Christopher Eilers, Johann Ahlers and Julian Trautwein are also putting out feelers beyond the borders of Brandenburg: They have had two new tiny houses built and erected, one not far from Hamburg, the other near Leipzig or Leipzig Dresden – after all, there are supposed to be stressed city dwellers in Germany’s other metropolises looking for relaxation nearby.

A new location is also easy to reach for Berliners

The new cabin “Eichenhöhe” is somewhere in the middle of nowhere between Leipzig and Dresden. According to a pre-announcement by the company, the many clear waters of the Lusatian Lake District are easy to reach from here; Heath landscapes characterize the environment, which can be discovered on walks or bike tours. The Tiny House itself is on the edge of a small oak grove.

Like all Raus huts, the “Eichenhöhe” is also well equipped – you don’t have to bring anything with you apart from clothing and food. And if you ever run out of provisions, you will find a weekly market with regional products nearby. In the meantime, the “Lindenblick” cabin has been planted in the open air not far from Hamburg. The surrounding landscape, formed by glaciers, can be admired from a vantage point, it is said, wide nature reserves and lush forests characterize the area, in which there are also more than 50 lakes to discover.

The cottage itself is on the edge of a field, surrounded – as you can already hear – by tall linden trees. And even though anyone who is interested can of course rent any Tiny House from any city, the “Lindenblick” in particular is particularly interesting for Berliners: The house is located almost exactly between the capital and the Hanseatic city, and is in from both Hamburg and Berlin about two hours to reach.

The Raus-Cabins can be reserved via the provider’s website – however, all locations are often fully booked. In this case, there is a waiting list, and the company will inform you via its Instagram account as soon as a cabin is spontaneously available. With a minimum stay of two nights, the Tiny Houses cost between around 150 and 190 euros per night. www.raus.life
