Berlin transport companies are now also making fashion

by time news

Whe loves the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) can now show it with his clothes. Because: The BVG went under the fashion designers. Together with the fashion label QS by S.Oliver and the advertising agency Jung von Matt SAGA, the transport company has created its own collection.

However, the pullovers, T-shirts and jackets do not have the iconic worm pattern from the 1980s that is already familiar from the seats of the Berlin subway. The BVG is no longer allowed to use this after a legal dispute with the designer of the pattern. She is also no longer allowed to sell fan articles in the pattern – the designer has the right to release it.

A new colorful design with a hidden object character had to be found. The “Pattern of Diversity” shows a colorful sea of worms, which at second glance turn out to be human outlines. The new pattern consists of around 80 different silhouettes that represent, among other things, a homosexual couple, pensioners with their dog or wheelchair users.

According to the BVG, the collection is intended to bring “the new, colorful seat pattern for buses and trains right into the colorful life of the city”. The transport company also wants to set an example for diversity with the fashion collection. Tolerance and diversity are the focus of the campaign, says Christine Wolburg, Head of Sales and Marketing at BVG. “Our passengers are as colorful and diverse as the BVG and Berlin itself. Our new seat pattern conveys this message perfectly.”

The advertising video for the new streetwear collection that was published on Wednesday also shows self-irony diversity and tolerance. With dog poop, street noise and reckless drivers, the brutal reality of the German capital is lovingly made fun of. Because: “When BVG makes fashion, then it’s typically BVG – typically Berlin,” says Dörte Spengler-Ahrens, creative director at Jung von Matt SAGA.

In 2023, the “pattern of diversity” should also adorn the seats in all BVG vehicles. Because the transport company attaches great importance to sustainability, the pattern should only be drawn up when old covers have to be replaced anyway. The first two double-decker buses were re-equipped with it in July.

Under the slogan “Wear can’t be more streetwear”, BVG fans can order the limited fashion collection from the online mail order company Zalando or buy it in person in a pop-up store on Berlin’s Alexanderplatz. The Hidden Object Mode is available while stocks last.
