It sounds different: The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK) must – with great regret – increase the admission prices to the State Museums in Berlin and the Musical Instruments Museum from January 15, 2024. SPK President Hermann Parzinger explains this with the increased costs. A visit to the museum should “remain affordable compared to international standards”. According to the foundation president, the capital’s state museums have been able to return to pre-Corona levels: in the year that has ended, almost four million visitors from all over the world have come to the 15 collections in 19 houses. But like so many cultural institutions, the Berliners are also dealing with a very tense budget situation. This means having to increase income and reduce expenses.

The price for a single ticket in the Altes Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Bode Museum, the Gemäldegalerie and the Museum für Fotografie increases from ten to twelve euros. Admission to the Hamburger Bahnhof – National Gallery of the Present, the New National Gallery, the New Museum and the Pergamon Museum – The Panorama will be increased from twelve to 14 euros. In the future, ten euros will be charged for a visit to the Decorative Arts Museum, the Museum of European Cultures, the Musical Instrument Museum of the State Institute for Music Research and the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection; The art library, copper engraving cabinet and Köpenick Palace charge eight euros. There is still free entry to the Friedrichswerder Church as well as the collections of the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art in the Humboldt Forum.

Admission remains free for children and young people up to 18 years of age and people entitled to transfer benefits; Reduced tickets cost half as much as before.
