The first part of the statement was read by Karin Herrera where she called on the international community to “not take their eyes off” what is happening in Guatemala. The second part was read by Bernardo Arévalo who insisted on calling the actions of the Public Ministry as ” spurious” and an assault on democracy and the rule of law.

Karin Herrera said, “we will not let these actions (those of the MP) prevent the new spring from beginning on January 14.” In addition, “We alert the international community committed to freedom not to take their eyes off it.” Bernardo Arévalo stressed that they will present “the necessary legal actions to prevent this political persecution from continuing.” The president-elect also emphasized maintaining peace. “To express our repudiation, rejection within the peaceful framework to avoid provocations that these forces want to achieve,” he said before the crowd of people present and the media.

On the morning of this Thursday, November 16, the Public Ministry carried out several raids in various parts of the city for a case called “Takeover of the USAC: Political Loot” where they captured several people including students, union members and politicians, among whom Marcela Blanco stands out. , former candidate for deputy of the Semilla Movement party.
In addition to those captured today, a pretrial was requested against Bernardo Arévalo and Karin Herrera. In total there are 8 including the president-elect and his vice president. The list is completed by Samuel Pérez, Roman Castellanos, Raúl Barrera, Adán Pérez, Carlos Barreda and Aldo Dávila.
