“12:00am (local time) the winds are occasionally strong (gusts) and sometimes calm, we still have electricity for the moment. On local pages, they are still posting addresses to shelter people and/or animals,” user @jen_cristhel reported on X.

“We have electricity, but we still don’t know what it will be like in the early morning,” wrote another user, who shared a short video of how the wind can be heard shaking the trees in his area.
Given that Cozumel has become a trending topic on X, local authorities have provided an update on the weather.
“It is forecast to hit during the early hours of Friday as a category 3 or 2 hurricane in Tulum, very close to the municipality of Solidaridad, including the island of Cozumel, Q. Roo,” wrote Civil Protection of Cancun.

Minutes later, due to the lack of updates from tenants, some users reported “communications being down,” although this has not been confirmed by any authority (at the time of writing this note).

Even users from other countries have spoken out about what happened: “Let’s pray for the people of Cozumel. Texas, you’re next,” said user @Sibehuskymom46, who claims to be of American origin.
The forecasts of Beryl’s impact in Quintana Roo are not surprising, as this fact has been constantly reported. Activities were even cancelled, however, the trajectory of the phenomenon is reported to have changed, so the full impact on Cozumel took some by surprise.
