Koda won the Oscar for Best Picture. Koda also won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Troy Coates won the Best Supporting Actor award for her performance in the film. Coda tells the touching story of a deaf family through Apple’s streaming platform. Best Supporting Actress is Ariana Dabos. The award went to the actress for her performance in West Side Story. Ariano is also the first transgender person to win an Oscar.
‘Encanto’ is the best animated film. Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard. The film revolves around an extraordinary family of Madrigalles who live in a hidden place called Encanto.
‘The Windshield Wiper’ by Alberto Mielgo and Leo Sansche was nominated for Best Animated Short Film. Ben Proudfoot’s The Queen of Basketball won the Oscar for Documentary Short. The Oscar-winning film Dune is currently leading the way and has won six awards. The film won the Oscars for Best Music (Original), Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effect. ‘Drive My Car’ won the award for Foreign Language Film.
However, Writing with Fire, which was India’s hope at the Oscars, did not win the award. The Indian film competed only in the documentary feature category. ‘Summer of Soul’ won the Oscar for Best Documentary. The film’s cast members Ahmir Thompson, Joseph Patel, Robert Fivalent and David Dinerstein will receive the award.
Rintu Thomas, a Delhi native, and her husband Sushmit Ghosh are on the set of Writing with Fire. This documentary is about a Hindi newspaper called Khabar Laharia run by Dalit women. Everyone was hoping that the Oscars would come to India once again through Writing with Fire, which has already won many international awards.
