A week ago, the teaser of the Brahmanda film Adipurush was released. Ever since the release of the teaser, the film faced massive trolls. Mainly many criticized the quality of Adipurush’s VFX scenes. Even if you look at the history of Indian cinema, there are few films where VFX is so important.

A major reason for this is the budget constraints faced by Indian films. Many producers hesitate to make VFX-intensive films due to reluctance to spend huge sums of money on VFX. The current state of Indian films is that the quality of VFX in the films released after this is being questioned by the audience. But there are also some Indian films that are highly acclaimed in terms of VFX. Let’s check what they are..

1. Ra.One

Ra.One is an Indian superhero film released in 2011. This film is directed by Anubhav Sinha and stars Shah Rukh Khan as the lead. Ra.One is a superhero origin story that is very different from what we have seen in foreign superhero films. Several VFX artists from India and abroad have worked on the film.

The color grading of the film was done by Richard Ferron, a prominent London-based colorist. Red Chillies collaborated with many leading VFX studios in the world to do the VFX for Ra One. Directed the production of visual effects in the film
It’s Jeffrey Kleiser. Nvidia, a leading American technology expert, distributed the software to create the visual effects required for the film. The construction cost of Ra.One was 130 crores. The VFX in the 3D film Ra.One has received rave reviews from the audience since its release. Ra.One also won the National Award for Best Visual Effects in 2011.

2. Zero

Zero is a 2018 big budget film directed by Anand L. Rai. The production cost of the film was 200 crores. Shahrukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif and other stars have acted in the film. Bouwva Singh, the protagonist of the film, is a short person. Most of the VFX scenes in the film were used to portray Shah Rukh Khan as this character. The VFX scenes in Zero are inspired by the techniques used in English films including Lord of the Rings.

In the film, Shah Rukh Khan had to stand in a pit on the green mat to shoot the scenes where the other characters talk to Shah Rukh Khan’s character. A single scene was shot up to four times in Zero to fully capture the VFX sequences in a scene. A song featuring Shah Rukh and Anushka Sharma together in the film was shot in 14 days. Zero’s VFX scenes were shot by Red Chilli Studios. The VFX in Zero won the Filmfare Award for Best Visual Effects that year.

3. 2.O

2.O is a 2018 film directed by Shankar. 2.O is the second part of the 2010 film Enthiran starring Superstar Rajinikanth. Akshay Kumar has played the villain role in this film. 2.O is the first film in Indian cinema to be shot entirely with 3D cameras.

The animatronics scenes in the film were done by Legacy Effects, an American special effects studio. John Hughes and Walt Jones from American animation company Tow Films worked on the film’s VFX scenes. With a budget of around 500 crores, 2.O was the highest-grossing film of 2018.
