Bethesda Game Studios has officially confirmed that the next installment in its premier role-playing series is titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Revealed during a video celebrating the studio’s 40th anniversary on November 3, 2026, the game arrives more than eight years after its initial 2018 teaser.
Executive producer Todd Howard introduced the reveal near the end of a short video marking four decades of Bethesda Game Studios, noting that the milestone offered a fitting moment to share the official subtitle.
You know, everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls 6,
Howard said in the video. And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called.
The announcement coincides with a period of restructuring within Microsoft and Xbox, which earlier in the year involved studio job cuts and workforce reductions.
Bethesda Sets Sequel in Hammerfell
The subtitle points directly to Hammerfell, the arid homeland of the Redguard race, where Sentinel serves as a major coastal city and regional capital.
The teaser video featured an elder scroll being pulled from sand, followed by a passage attributed to Yazar, a moth priest serving High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, dated 4E 206. That timestamp places the narrative five years after the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which was set in 4E 201.
Hammerfell stands out within the franchise as the sole province to successfully repel the Thalmor independently, following the terms of the White-Gold Concordat that ceded portions of the region to the Aldmeri Dominion.
The location of Sentinel itself acts as a trading post along the Abecean Sea and Iliac Bay. Longtime series fans will recognize Sentinel from previous entries, as the desert-bordered city previously appeared in the original , , and . Bruce Nesmith, a former Bethesda veteran and lead designer on , previously noted that setting a game around the Iliac Bay region could potentially open up naval exploration mechanics involving boats and water travel for the first time in the franchise.

The featured quote reads:
The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.
This textual clue reinforces prior reports indicating that the title will explore the provenance and ancient secrets of the titular artifacts.
Studio Faces Extended Development Timeline
The eight-year gap since the game’s initial announcement at E3 2018 stems from major changes within the industry and the studio itself.
Players Face Wait for Release
Despite the official title reveal, players hoping for a near-term release face a wait. In a follow-up social media post, Bethesda stated: Development continues, and while it’ll be some time before we’re ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you.
