Bethesda to Beta Test Nvidia Graphics Upscaling Technology in Starfield

Bethesda, the renowned game developer, is gearing up to officially incorporate Nvidia’s graphics upscaling technology into their highly anticipated game, Starfield. However, before the technology is implemented, Bethesda is seeking assistance from the PC gaming community through an opt-in beta test that will be made available via the Steam platform.

The upcoming update for Starfield will introduce DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) with frame generation, possibly DLSS 3 or 3.5, along with display and HDR controls specifically designed for supported systems.

The lack of DLSS support in the RPG has been an ongoing concern even before its launch, leading AMD, the “exclusive PC partner,” to publicly assure that they would fully support Bethesda if they intended to add Nvidia’s technology to the game. Modders quickly stepped in and added unofficial support for DLSS, demonstrating how it enhances performance on gaming PCs equipped with Nvidia graphics cards.

In a Digital Foundry video, Alexander Battaglia commented on the game’s stock version, stating, “If you’re on Intel and Nvidia, you’re getting a bizarrely worse experience here in comparison to AMD GPUs in a way that’s completely out of the norm.” Despite Starfield already supporting AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2), Bethesda mentioned in a subsequent post that an upgrade to FSR 3, incorporating AMD’s frame generation technology, would have to wait for a future update.

Bethesda has also committed to providing other fixes, such as an FOV (Field of View) slider and 32:9 ultrawide monitor support. The specifics of these additional improvements will be revealed during the beta testing phase, which is set to begin next week. Once the beta phase concludes, the update will be made available to all Starfield players on Xbox and PC.

For Steam users who have purchased the game, expressing interest in participating in the beta can be done by accessing Starfield in their Steam library and navigating to the game’s settings via the gear icon on the right-hand side. Within the settings menu, a section labeled “betas” will be visible, and users can choose from the available options in the drop-down box next to “beta participation.”

As Bethesda takes this collaborative approach with the PC gaming community, fans eagerly await the integration of Nvidia’s graphics upscaling technology in Starfield, with hopes of embracing enhanced visuals and gameplay experiences.
