The stoppage of the Brazilian Championship is ruled out by the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), but that does not remove the concern of its leaders. The fear is that Operation Maximum Penalty, launched by the Goiás Public Ministry, will involve more and more players and reach the referees.

A complaint from the Prosecutor’s Office, last Monday (8), presented new names of players allegedly linked to the betting plot, after analyzing the content of the seized computers and cell phones.

For the accusation, the leader of the group of gamblers is Bruno Lopes de Moura, a futsal player. According to prosecutor Fernando Cesconetto, another 16 people could still be charged.

The basis of the scheme consisted of recruiting soccer players, in exchange for money (payments ranged from R$50,000 to R$500,000), to carry out certain actions during matches, such as receiving a yellow or red card, causing a penalty , etc.

This Wednesday (10), the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flavio Dino, ordered the Federal Police to investigate the case.

So far, nine players have been suspended by their clubs after being cited by gamblers or in conversations with organization leaders.
