Saving cabin baggage when traveling by plane is often an effective way to save time and money. Especially when the budget is limited and the tickets are bought through a low cost airline. Be careful though, some apply very limited cabin baggage standards. To avoid unpleasant surprises while on board, here’s what you need to know about the five most restrictive low-cost airlines on this matter.
Ryanair

Ryanair offers discounted flights to Norway, Portugal or Montenegro. On board, passengers can only leave for free with a backpack or a small bag (40 x 20 x 25 cm). For an additional bag of 55 x 40 x 20 cm and a maximum of 10 kg to bring in the cabin, the prices start from €6 and differ depending on the chosen itinerary and travel dates. In the event of any excess, additional costs may be as high as €46.
The transavia

Transavia, a low-cost airline of the Air France-KLM group, offers low-price travel from France, the Netherlands and Belgium. From 3 April, Transavia changed its cabin baggage policy. Regardless of the price, travelers benefit from free small hand luggage, to slip under the seats (40x30x20cm).
To add large cabin baggage (55x35x25cm), you will need to select the new paid option. The bag must not exceed 10 kg and be placed in the luggage compartments above the seats. Billed from €10, prices vary depending on destination and date of stay. Please note that it is mandatory to choose this option for those who wish to travel with two cabin bags, otherwise the suitcase will be placed in the hold and charged a minimum of €65.
Vueling

This Spanish company is great for discovering Spain, from Bilbao to Lanzarote. All Vueling customers board with one free piece of hand luggage included in each booking (maximum size 40 x 20 x 30 cm), which, however, must fit under the seat in front of them. One additional piece of luggage, which will be charged at €20 to €59, can be added, not exceeding 10 kg (55 x 40 x 20 cm). Last minute check-in while on board can cost up to €70.
The volley

From Lille or Paris, Volotea serves more than 100 airports, including Prague in the Czech Republic and Varna in Bulgaria. Only one hand luggage measuring 40 x 30 x 20 cm and weighing a maximum of 10 kg is allowed at the free rate. Larger hand luggage (55 x 40 x 20 cm) can be added from just €9 with the “priority boarding” option. It is necessary to ensure that the total weight of the hand bag and hand luggage does not exceed 10 kg. To add hand luggage at check-in, a supplement of €65 per piece will be requested.
easyJet

It is the second largest airline in France, after Air France. easyJet serves more than 150 airports, including Greece, Morocco and Spain. Like other companies, easyJet requires you to board with only a small piece of hand luggage.
But it is slightly more generous than the others and offers up to 15kg of cabin luggage, with a maximum size of 45 x 36 x 20 cm. It is also possible to choose additional “large cabin baggage” from €7.99. It must not weigh more than 15 kg (max. 56 x 45 x 25 cm, including handles and casters). If the sizes and weights are not respected, easyJet will charge a fee of €58 to put it in the stomach.
