San Antonio Thanksgiving Closures: What to Know About Trash, Libraries, and City Services

San Antonio residents can expect meaningful closures to city services this Thanksgiving, impacting everything from trash collection to library access. City Hall and moast municipal offices will be closed on Thursday, November 27th, and Friday, November 28th, in observance of the holiday, though essential services will remain operational.
Public Safety and Essential Services
Public safety remains a top priority during the holiday weekend. According to city officials, police, fire, and Emergency Medical Services will continue to operate at full capacity. The 3-1-1 call center will be available for urgent animal-related and traffic signal concerns from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on thursday, November 27th, returning to normal operating hours on friday, November 28th. Animal Care Officers and Code enforcement Officers will also be on duty to address emergencies.
Waste Collection and Disposal
Residents should plan accordingly for waste disposal, as there will be no garbage, recycling, or organics curbside collections on Thursday, November 27th. Collections will resume with Thursday’s routes being serviced on Friday, November 28th, and Friday’s routes on Saturday, November 29th.
Several waste disposal facilities will also be affected. The Bitters Brush Recycling Center, the Bulky Waste Drop-Off center, and the Mitchell Lake Compost Facility will be closed on Thursday, November 27th, and reopen on Friday, November 28th.
Remaining Open: Essential Municipal Services
Several essential municipal services will continue to operate. Municipal Court Magistration services and the San Antonio Police Department’s (SAPD) detention center will remain open.

Limited Operations
La Villita and Market Square shops, along with the Spanish Governor’s Palace, will be closed on Thursday, November 27th, but will reopen on Friday, November 28th. The Alamodome Box Office will be closed on Thursday, November 27th, and will reopen at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 28th.
Regular buisness hours for all city offices will resume on Monday, December 1st.
