After only about a month ago the launch event of Ashdod’s new fringe theater group – “Shaver Galim” was held, the intriguing ensemble begins to pay bills and immediately after the Hanukkah holiday they will perform the first three performances of the play “Beyond the Border” on the stage of the “Barmoza” theater in the heart of Ashdod.
The new “Wave Breaker” ensemble in the city of Ashdod consists of professional actors and actresses of the Fringe Theater under the leadership of the “Creative Space Ashdod” project operating within the Municipal Society for Culture and Leisure in Ashdod and in cooperation with the “Barmoza” Theater.
Ilanit Suissa, a director and playwright born in the city whose first production, the play “Maf’or Le Gebul” was penned by Ilanit Soysa as the artistic director and house playwright of the ensemble, won first place at the “Here and Now” festival for original plays 2021 at the Chamber Theater and won the best play award.
The plot of the play “Beyond the Border” is about Usheri Elimelech (played by Oren Papismidov) who is dealing with demons from his military past. He was forced to live with his mother (played by Orly Toveli) following an unpleasant divorce that even kept his son Roy (played by Eitan Gamborg Falev) away from him and he only communicates with him through video calls.
While trying to fit into a normal life, he takes part in the local singing group, where he meets Gila – the leader of the group (played by Nisna Molok), who is married to a senior commander in the southern sector.
The boundaries between him and his age are breached and a new future is woven between the two, but Oshri finds it difficult to escape his past and he sinks into planning a heroic rescue operation across the border – an operation that threatens his safety and the safety of his lovers.
