Marco Bezzecchi is looking for the alirón this weekend. It wasn’t worth it for the Italian to lead free practice and take pole position, that the Sprint Race on Saturday in Assen has also been won on a platter, and with what a difference. Not even Pecco Bagnaia was able to beat the VR46 driver, while the action was in third place between Binder, Quartararo and Espargaró. In the end the podium was decided in favor of Binder.

Binder’s masterful start was the talk at the start of the Sprint Race. The KTM man spent them very well to position himself behind Pecco Bagnaia, who stole first place from Bezzecchi, who lost the status of ‘poleman’ to be relegated to third place. Quartararo endured the initial stake and together with Marini, they closed the top 5.

In the first round Bagnaia threatened to leave; he was half a second ahead of Binder. Bezzecchi refused to let Pecco get away, so he hacked into Binder to move into second and start a chase. Another lap and the one in the VR46 put the glove on Bagnaia and stole the place the reigning world champion. Faultless overtaking the one he starred in.

Quartararo was the one who broke that group behind Binder, but Jorge Martín did not want to let them escape, and when they reached the equator, both he and Aleix Espargaró came to catch up with the French rider. Meanwhile, at that point in the race Bezzecchi was already a second ahead of Bagnaia; he flew alone to look for the alirón again.

The race remained stable practically until the end of the 13 laps. Bezzecchi ended up winning with the victory on a tray; Bagnaia was stuck in a second position and Fabio Quartararo could not get over Brad Binder, who enthusiastically defended his third place to get on the podium.

However, it was a knockout in Quartararo’s favor, as Brad Binder was penalized with a long-lap penalty after going over the track limits. The KTM man gave up his position to Quartararo so that he could get on the podium for the first time this season.

So Quartararo became 3rd, while Espargaró would be 4th. Binder fell back to 5th place. For the rest, the overtaking of Aleix Espargaró left Jorge Martín in the lunge (6th), followed by Viñales (7th) and Luca Marini (8th), who lost many places having started in third place. The top 10 were closed by Enea Bastianini (9th) and Álex Márquez (10th). Marc Márquez disappeared in 17th place.

This leaves the general classification with Pecco Bagnaia still leading, but by the law of the minimum with 169 points. Meanwhile, Jorge Martín holds on stoically in second place with 148 points, while Bezzecchi is dangerously close after today’s victory: 138 points.

We will have to wait for the Sunday appointment to see the MotoGP roar again. The queen category race is scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Spanish time.
