The Bulgarian Farmers’ Union (BFS) is included in the national protest of agricultural producers. The decision was taken by the Management Board of the organization, stated the chairman Georgi Stoyanov. The protest actions in the country and the capital will start from 18.09.2023 with a starting time of 10.00 a.m., and will include the blocking of border points, main roads and highways.
The reason for the escalation of tension in the agricultural sector is the decision of the National Assembly not to extend the ban on the import of agricultural goods from Ukraine. The initiative committee, which includes all the organizations in our country, formulates 5 requests to the rulers. (Which ones – see HERE)
In addition, the BFS demands that the Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev start talking to the industry. Communication with the department is very difficult and limited, said Georgi Stoyanov.
He believes that the government should have a comprehensive approach to all sectors of the economy given the geopolitical situation and its economic implications. For this purpose, a strategy must be made to protect Bulgarian producers and consumers with predictability in production and guaranteeing markets, while preserving food security.
A system and structure need to be created to identify and manage risk in agriculture.
A financial resource must also be provided to guarantee compensatory measures as a result of consequences of risky situations and market crises. Therefore, it is necessary to create a Crisis Management Fund – something that is embedded in the Strategic Plan for Agriculture.
