  • However, the cars were mostly over 20 years old, so they are difficult to sell, sometimes it takes 8 months
  • Only the Lamborghini of the boss of a car dealership – 3 times more expensive than the nearly 130 for which the NRA auctions have ended

A total of BGN 222,000 was earned by the state from the sale of confiscated cars to drunk and drugged drivers. This became clear from the answer of Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova during the parliamentary control on Friday.

She was asked by “Vazrazhdane” what is the balance sheet for the National Revenue Agency (NAA) for a year since the state can seize motor vehicles of drivers found to be driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotic substances and their analogues. According to the law, vehicles seized by the Ministry of the Interior are sold by the revenue agency at an auction.

As of July 25, 2024, 1,173 motor vehicles with legal acts entered into force have entered the NRA, said Petkova.

Of these, the tax authorities managed to sell 128 cars, of which 76 were auctioned for BGN 167,000, and 27 were bought by their co-owners for BGN 55,000. Others

25 cars were provided for the use of budget organizations by order of the Minister of Finance.

“The remaining 1,045 cars are in a different phase of preparation for the auction – evaluation and preparation of documents,” explained Petkova.

The minister also drew attention to the fact that a large part of the cars are over 20 years old and are in an unsatisfactory condition, which makes their sale difficult.

“Usually, more than 3 auctions with successive price reductions are needed in order to reach real market interest in them, and the average real time for the sale of a car after its entry into the NRA is between 4 and 8 months,” added Petkova.

According to her, one of the problems can be solved with a change in the Road Traffic Act: a large part of the confiscated cars have a coercive administrative measure imposed by the Ministry of Interior – a ban on registration for a period of 6 months to 1 year. After the car became state property, this coercive measure continued to operate, preventing the sale.

Already at the end of May, “24 Chasa” wrote that the value of cars seized for the benefit of the state and sold was low. Luxury ones are often brought to companies. For example, the powerful “Lamborghini Urus” of the head of the luxury car dealership Tony Zlatkov will be valued at over 350,000 BGN. He was caught driving in Sofia with 1.41 ppm of alcohol in his blood, confirmed by a blood test at the end of May.

Zlatkov’s car dealership offers exactly this jeep for BGN 540,000 without VAT, a check by “24 Chasa” showed. This means that if Zlatkov’s assessment is correct, he will be relieved of BGN 648,000. This will be a record amount that exceeds the fines paid by all drivers almost 3 times. Zlatkov has not yet been convicted, the investigation against him continues.

Otherwise, a powerful Beemwe is the most luxurious car seized, which is owned by the offending driver, not a company. It is on
