World Champion Denise Herrmann-Wick secured the small crystal globe in the Sprint World Cup with a victory in the penultimate race of her biathlon career. The 34-year-old sprinted to the eleventh World Cup success of her career without shooting errors at the Holmenkollen in Oslo.

Behind the Saxon, the Swede Hanna Öberg (0 penalties) ended up in second place, 3.5 seconds behind. Herrmann-Wick triumphed for the second time after 2019/2020 in the discipline ranking in the sprint.

Four days after her retirement announcement at the end of the season, Herrmann-Wick showed an outstanding performance at the cradle of Nordic skiing. The Olympic champion hit all ten shots and was unstoppable on the track in warm conditions and sunshine.

The race on Friday could not take place due to dense fog and was postponed by one day. The pursuer originally planned for Saturday was removed from the program. At the end of the season, the mass start is on the program on Sunday (3.10 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport). For Herrmann-Wick it will be the last appearance before she resigns. (dpa)
