One more step. According to information from Dauphiné Libéré, biathlon champion Julia Simon (27) was taken into police custody this Tuesday morning in the offices of the Albertville research brigade. Revealed at the start of summer 2023, the case concerns the French Biathlon team. Julia Simon is the target of two complaints for bank card fraud filed in January and June 2022. One of the victims is Olympic champion Justine Braisaz-Bouchet. During a roller ski competition in Sandnes, Norway, the biathlete allegedly made several purchases on the Internet (high-tech products from the Go Pro brand) with her teammate’s bank card, for a sum estimated between 1,000 and 2,000 euros. Realizing the maneuver, Justine Braisaz-Bouchet alerted the French Federation and Julia Simon to resolve it but, as the matter dragged on, she then filed a complaint during the winter. The investigation lasted more than a year.
This Tuesday will be decisive for the world pursuit champion, who could be criminally prosecuted. If convicted, she risks up to five years in prison and a fine of 375,000 euros. Since the release of this affair, the Saisies athlete has always proclaimed his innocence.
