The winter sports season is almost upon us. In our news ticker you will find all the important news about ski jumping, biathlon, alpine skiing and cross-country skiing.
Last December, Norwegian Sturla Holm Laegreid sent the biathlon world into turmoil after a shot went off from his rifle in the team hotel. Now the 27-year-old, who became sprint world champion this year, has given “Fondo Italia” an interview about it. Laegreid now takes the matter with humor, says: “Perhaps one of the strengths of a biathlete is that you are mentally strong and can leave tragedies behind you. You learn not to let it get you down, but rather to work on something like that doesn’t happen again. You learn, draw a line and start again.”
Both the police and the world association IBU were investigating at the time. Laegreid was banned from the mass start race and fined 500 euros. However, this did not affect his sporting achievements. In addition to the World Championship title in the sprint, he won World Championship silver in the pursuit and relay. Almost a year later, the Norwegian said: “The hole in the sofa is still there and now always reminds me of it.”

In the world of alpine skiing, there is an unwritten rule that a mother should not race. The Austrian Tamara Tippler now wants to break this taboo. The 33-year-old wants to go back to skiing after her maternity leave.
She told “Blick”: “The vast majority of women concentrate on the family after the birth of their first child. I did that too. At the same time, I have the feeling that I’m not done with ski racing yet. I want him to have another one Give me a chance.”
Tippler would like to take part in the World Cup. She doesn’t know yet whether it will work. She also said: “Of course not everyone thinks it’s great that I want to rush down the mountain at 130 km/h again. After all, I have a baby. But the vast majority of reactions to my decision were great.” She also wants her one-year-old daughter to be well looked after when she gets back on the slopes.
Swedish biathlete Jesper Nelin is looking forward to the coming season and is in good shape. However, the path there was marked by a bad incident, as reported to the Swedish newspaper “Expressen”. After a doping test, his veins turned black. Read more about this here.
