As during the first relay of the season two weeks ago, the French men’s biathlon team suffered the law of Norway this Sunday in Hochfilzen, Austria. After being level for half of the race, the Blues ended up giving in to the armada led by Johannes Boe, back at his best, and settled for a nice second place. Germany completes the podium.

First to leave, the youngest Éric Perrot, 22, very quickly put France into orbit, unleashing a super-fast shot without the slightest fault to hand over the lead to Émilien Jacquelin. The Isérois, put under pressure by his Norwegian and Swedish pursuers, took the same side as his teammate, but was less successful, pitting twice and suffering somewhat from the speed of Tarjei Boe on skis.

Johannes Boe above the rest

Launched six seconds behind Norway, Fabien Claude was then powerless against Johannes Boe, the four-time winner of the big globe. Setting off like a rocket on skis, the winner of the pursuit the day before quickly overtook the Frenchman and, despite a shot that could be improved (three picks), handed over to Vetle Christiansen with a minute’s lead. In an armchair, the last torchbearer left no chance to Quentin Fillon-Maillet, who secured the runner-up position for France, with a comfortable margin.

The next men’s relay will not take place until January 7, during the Oberhof round in Germany. Next week, in Lenzerheide in Switzerland, there will only be individual events on the program.
