The town hall wants to remove and dispose of so-called bicycle bodies from the bicycle parking facilities on the station forecourt. The city administration announced this on Wednesday. The aim is to create space and thus restore the parking space for cyclists.

Bicycles with defective or missing wheels and / or brakes, missing saddles and / or no longer functional or missing cranks or chains are regarded as “bicycle corpses”, informs the town hall. During on-the-spot inspections, numerous bicycles were found that had obviously not been used for a long period of time; some of them are therefore no longer roadworthy. They blocked the bicycle parking facilities permanently, it said.

In the coming days, employees of the town hall would record these wheels and mark them clearly. The police also compare the bicycle bodies with the list of bicycles advertised to be wanted. Owners of bicycles parked there permanently are asked to remove their belongings by September 20th at the latest. From September 21, 10 a.m., the city and the police will dispose of these bikes. A reclamation after this date is not possible, so the town hall.

The City of Chemnitz operates two bicycle parking facilities with a total of around 100 parking spaces on the forecourt of the main train station.
