The United States does not plan to engage in hostilities against Russia in Ukraine, but will defend the territory of NATO allies if necessary, US President Joe Biden said, according to the TASS news agency.

“We will not wage war against Russia in Ukraine. A direct confrontation between NATO and Russia is a third world war, and we must strive to prevent it, ”Biden said during a speech at the White House.

“We will continue to stand [плечом к плечу] with allies in Europe, sending an unequivocal message: we will defend every inch of NATO territory with full strength – united and demonstrating the new energy of NATO, ”the American leader added.

At the same time, he expressed his conviction that Russia would not achieve victory in Ukraine.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR, then the State Duma and the Federation Council adopted agreements on friendship and mutual assistance between Russia and the republics. On February 24, the head of state announced the start of a special operation in Ukraine to protect the inhabitants of Donbass. The President assured that Russia has no plans to occupy Ukraine, but Moscow will strive for the demilitarization and denazification of this country.
