US Chief of Staff Joe Biden is discussing with Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris the process of selecting a running mate for the upcoming election, Biden confirmed in a brief conversation with reporters on the South Lawn of the White House before leaving for the weekend in Wilmington, Delaware, where Biden’s home is located.
As reported by Day.Az with reference to TASS, the president answered affirmatively to the question of whether he discussed with Harris the process of her selection of a candidate for the post of US vice president from the Democrats. He did not go into details. Biden avoided a direct answer to the request to clarify what qualities Harris’s running mate should have, what advice he would give her on this matter. “She should determine this herself,” the president said.
The current owner of the White House, Democrat Biden, was forced to announce on July 21 under pressure from his fellow party members that he was withdrawing from the elections to be held in the United States on November 5. The Republican Party of the United States will be represented by the previous American leader Donald Trump. It was after Biden’s disastrous performance in the televised debate with Trump on June 27 that calls began to grow among Democrats for the president to abandon his attempt to achieve re-election. However, he insisted to the last that he did not intend to drop out of the race. Having dropped out of the race, Biden supported Harris, who currently holds the position of Vice President of the United States, as his replacement. Trump chose as his running mate – the Republican vice presidential candidate – James David Vance.
The American press is currently naming Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as Harris’s most likely running mate. The media are citing sources in the White House, Harris’s campaign headquarters, and the US Democratic Party.
Harris is expected to be confirmed as her party’s presidential nominee soon. The Democratic Party will officially nominate a candidate at its convention in Chicago, Illinois, on August 19-22.
