Before heading to Poland, where he is due to meet tomorrow with his Polish counterpart, the American President today made a surprise trip of a few hours to Kiev to express his country’s “infallible” support for Ukraine, to say that the United States on its side “as long as necessary” and announce the delivery of additional weapons.

On his first visit to Ukraine, at a press conference with the Ukrainian President, Joe Biden announced the release of US$500 million in military support, the details of which should be announced in the coming days.

“I thought it was essential that there be no doubt about US support for Ukraine”said Joe Biden who, in a statement, had already announced “the delivery of more essential equipment, including artillery munitions, anti-missile systems and air surveillance radars”.

In turn, by emphasizing the character “symbolic” of Biden’s trip, Volodymyr Zelensky considered that this is also “the most important of all visits to Ukraine”. The Ukrainian head of state also indicated that he had spoken with Joe Biden about the possibility of obtaining long-range weapons and “ways to win the war this year”. A “Russia has no chance of winning”considered Zelensky.

This visit, which takes place one day before a speech in which Putin is due to set out his country’s objectives regarding its armed action, also coincides with the first anniversary of the Russian offensive in the country, which will be marked on the 24th of February.

On that day, the G7 group should hold an online meeting of its leaders together with Zelensky, indicated today the Prime Minister of Japan when also announcing financial support of 5.5 billion additional dollars from his country to Ukraine.
