Washington: US President Joe Biden on Tuesday made a historic announcement to donate air defense systems to Ukraine. Biden said that Russia is failing in this war. Welcoming the leaders of NATO member countries for the historic summit organized on the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Biden said that the US, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Italy will provide five additional, strategically important air-defense systems to Ukraine. He said that the US and its partners plan to provide several additional air-defense systems to Ukraine in the coming months.
Biden said the US would ensure Ukraine is on the front lines when “we send in critical air-defense systems.” Biden said, “Make no mistake, Russia is failing this war. It has been more than two years since Russian President Vladimir Putin opted for war, their losses are staggering. More than 350,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded, nearly 1 million Russian citizens, many of them young people, have left Russia because they see no future in their country.”
The US President said, ‘We know that Putin will not stop in Ukraine. But make no mistake, Ukraine can and will stop Putin.’ At the same time, NATO Secretary General James Stoltenberg said that there is no option in which there is no cost to deal with Russia as a neighbor. He said, ‘There is no risk-free option in any war. And remember – the biggest cost and the biggest danger will be if Russia wins in Ukraine. We cannot let this happen. This will not only boost the morale of President Putin but it will also encourage other autocratic leaders in Iran, North Korea and China.’ Biden honored Stoltenberg with America’s highest civilian honor ‘Presidential Medal of Freedom’ for his decade of service while holding the top post of the NATO alliance.
