Biden on the way to Israel: the roadblocks and the president’s schedule

Tomorrow (Wednesday) in the afternoon, the door of the Air Force One plane will open at Ben Gurion Airport, and US President Joe Biden will begin his first political visit to the region since taking office. Next to it were missile defense systems, which would be presented to the president.

Due to the presidential visit, there will be many changes to the traffic arrangements within, to and from Jerusalem by Friday. In addition, tomorrow afternoon – around 15:00 (final time has not yet been set) and until about 18:00, Road 1 will be blocked from the Shafirim Interchange to the Sakharov Interchange.

> Passengers must arrive at Ben Gurion Airport via Israel Railways starting at 13:00 noon

> Starting on Thursday at 01:00, activity will return to Terminal 1 for international flights on low-cost flights (Low Cost)

> Terminal 1 will be closed again for international flights on Thursday at midnight (Thursday to Friday), flights will be copied to Terminal 3

> From Tuesday to Friday afternoon with the departure of the President’s entourage Passengers landing on domestic flights also departed from Terminal 3

The international activity of the spare flights will be returned to Terminal 1 starting on Sunday, July 17 at 1:00 AM

> The parking lot of the station complex will be blocked for the entire duration of the visit from Wednesday to Friday

King David Street will be blocked in both directions for the duration of President Biden’s visit

Parking will be banned from Wednesday morning until Friday afternoon on the following streets: Jabotinsky, Keren Hayesod, King George, President, Gaza, Herzog, Shneur Hussein, Bezeq-Byte, Herzl Boulevard, Beitar Sports Association, Agron, Karib, Hebron Road, King Solomon, The Paratroopers, Yitzhak Hanadiv, Bar Lev, IDF Tunnel, Eshkol Tunnel, Naomi Shemer Tunnel, University Boulevard – These streets will be closed to traffic intermittently during the visit

The residents of the streets where parking will be banned will have access to the following parking lots: Menora, Wolfson-Diskin, HaLeum, Agron, Ahad Ha’am, Yes Planet, Safra Square and the Botanical Garden.

Tomorrow, Wednesday

> Road 1 will be closed to traffic in both directions from 15:00 (estimated time) until the evening hours, from the Shafirim Interchange to the Ginot Sakharov Interchange

> The entrances from Road 6 at the Ben Shemen Interchange and at the Nesherim Interchange in the direction of Road 1 – in both directions will also be blocked for traffic.

From noon, the entrance to Jerusalem will be blocked from the Sakharov Gardens to Yad Vashem, Weizmann and Herzl Boulevard to the Hantke Junction, Beit Bezeq, Herzog, Jabotinsky, Gaza, Paris Square, Keren Hayesod, Agron and King George

In preparation for President Biden’s participation in the opening ceremony of the Maccabiah at Teddy Stadium in the evening, Keren Hayesod, Gaza, Herzog and Golomb streets will also be closed to traffic in both directions.

Friday

> 15:45 – The President of the United States will be received at an official reception at Ben-Gurion Airport with the participation of President Yitzhak Herzog, Prime Minister Yair Lapid, and Deputy Prime Minister Naftali Bennett

> 16:15 – Biden will tour the Ministry of Defense’s multi-layered defense systems complex, which was set up for the visit, at Ben-Gurion Airport. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense will present to President Biden the State of Israel’s capability against missiles. The Minister of Defense will provide an overview of the cooperation between the defense systems. The President will then be presented with a display of the means of the Israeli multilayer defense system. In this context, the US President will be presented for the first time with a “Magen Or” system of the powerful laser for intercepting rockets, UAVs and shrapnel.

The Prime Minister will attend a small farewell ceremony for the President of the United States at Ben Gurion Airport. Lapid and Herzog will accompany the President back to the Air Force 1 plane ahead of his departure for Saudi Arabia.
