Biden: “Putin, make no mistake – we will defend all NATO territory”

After Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement of the official annexation of four districts in Ukraine, US President Joe Biden warned that the United States is prepared to defend all NATO territories together with its allies. Biden added that “Putin cannot seize his neighbor’s territories and Bear the consequences.” The American president also referred to the leaks in the Nordstream gas pipelines and said that “it is a deliberate act of sabotage.”

Prior to Biden’s statement, the Israeli company “Imagest” revealed satellite images showing that Russia is increasing the presence of Russian bombers at the “Ulania” air force base near the Finnish border. On August 21st there was not a single bomber at the base, but the most recent photo, from September 25th, shows 7 advanced bombers parked there.

At the same time, Putin signed an order for the recruitment of 120,000 additional Russian citizens into the country’s army. This, while the Ukrainian forces advancing in the north of the Donetsk region are close to closing the encirclement around the Russian unit that captured and protects the Ukrainian city of Liman and its surroundings. The Ukrainian units are moving in a pincer movement, in a northwest and southeast direction, towards each other, threatening to cut off the last path of Russian retreat. The only escape route left by the Russians is under Ukrainian artillery fire.

The President of Russia announced today the annexation of four regions in Ukraine – Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson. In his speech before signing the annexation treaty, the president referred to the elections held in the occupied territories: “The people have spoken, this is their basic right, it is enshrined in the UN Charter. This is a right based on Russian history.” He also said that Russia calls on Kiev to return to the negotiating table.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced in response that his country will submit a request for an expedited process to join NATO and added: “In practice, we have already made our way to NATO, we have proven our compliance with the alliance’s standards.” Apart from that, he also referred to Putin’s proposal to sit down for negotiations and said: “It is impossible to sit down for negotiations with Putin, he does not know what respect and honesty are. Therefore, we are ready for a dialogue with Russia, but with a different president at the head.”
