It is important for the US and Germany to continue to work together to implement the agreement to support Ukraine and protect European energy security, US President Joe Biden said on Saturday, October 30. According to him, Washington and Berlin must ensure that Moscow cannot take advantage of natural gas supplies to achieve “harmful political goals.” This was reported by the White House press service after Biden’s meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Vice-Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rome. The agreement provides for the imposition of sanctions against Russia if the Nord Stream 2 pipeline is used as a “geopolitical weapon.”

According to the press service of the White House, another topic of conversation between the leaders was the situation in Afghanistan, including the ongoing joint actions to provide humanitarian assistance to the residents of this country.

Later, the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported that the pipeline was reversed, pumping gas from west to east.

For its part, Gazprom said that on October 30 it had fulfilled all its obligations to European customers.

In late September, the International Energy Agency (IEA) urged Moscow to increase its gas exports to Europe to help the market prepare for the heating season.
