In relation to the assassination attempt on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump that occurred on the 15th (local time), US President Joe Biden has ordered all resources necessary to protect candidate Trump to be secured.

According to foreign news outlets such as CNN, President Biden said in a statement that day, “I have been briefed on the investigation into the attempted assassination of candidate Trump,” and “I commend the hard work of the Secret Service and others who have worked tirelessly to keep candidate Trump and those around him safe. I am relieved that the former president is safe.”

He also said, “As I have said many times, there is no place in our country for political violence or any violence whatsoever,” and added, “I have instructed my team to ensure that the SS continues to secure all the resources, capabilities, and protective measures necessary to ensure the continued safety of the former president.”

Earlier, the SS discovered a man hiding with a gun near Trump while he was playing golf at Trump Golf Club in Palm Beach, Florida, that afternoon. Former President Trump was moving from the 5th hole to the 6th hole at the time, and the Secret Service is said to have discovered the gun barrel sticking out of the fence while checking the hole ahead.

It was about 400 to 500 yards (about 365 to 457 meters) away from former President Trump. The Secret Service agent reportedly fired four to six shots at around 1:30 p.m. that day.

When the suspect was discovered hiding, he left the gun behind, escaped from the bushes, and fled in an SUV. Secret Service agents took photos of the car and its license plate and arrested him nearby. He was not carrying a gun at the time of his arrest.

The shooting comes about two months after former President Trump was shot and wounded in the right ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.
